Jones Village Bakery, a bakery headquartered in Wrexham, has been acquired by French firm Menissez Bakery Group. The French group has acquired a stake in the business, taking over from private equity firm Limerston Capital, and will provide a multimillion-pound investment in the company's expansion plan.
Jones Village Bakery, which secured investment from Limerston in 2021, will continue to be operated by its existing management team, headed by Managing Director Robin Jones and his brother Christien, alongside Operations Director Simon Thorpe and Commercial Director Lesley Arnot.
In the first phase of the expansion plan, the company will install a new, highly-automated production line at its headquarters, to cater to demand from new and existing customers. The line, which is planned to be operational by next year, will produce a range of bread rolls and morning goods.
Jones Village Bakery employs around 900 staff and operates several bakeries on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, as well as one on the outskirts of the town in Minera. According to Robin Jones, the company had a significant number of suitors keen on providing investment, but Menissez, a family-owned business that has been operating for nearly 60 years, represented the “perfect fit”.
Jones said that Menissez will “bring immediate investment into the business”, adding that the deal was “a long-term partnership that will benefit from the clear synergies between the two companies and the two families."
Menissez Bakery Group Chief Executive Laurent Menissez said that the company had watched Jones Village Bakery’s growth over recent years “with great admiration.”
He continued: “As well as producing the highest quality baked goods, they have a clear vision to expand capacity and reach new customers. By combining our resources and our expertise, we can become even more successful together."
