Personal injury specialist Donns LLP enters administration

Manchester-based personal injury law firm, Donns LLP, has been placed into administration, but immediately it has seen many of its cases snapped up by a rival firm.
The company, which operates from offices in City Wharf, New Bailey Street, Manchester, saw Toby Underwood and Robert Hebenton of PricewaterhouseCoopers appointed to handle the process.
The administrators were quickly able to secure a deal with law firm Irwin Mitchell to enable the continuity of “several hundred” of the firm’s personal injury cases, and are now assessing Donns’ financial situation.
Donns was originally founded in 1969 by solicitor Raymond Donn and, according to a statement on the company’s website, is, “recognised as one of the leading specialist law firms in the UK, at the forefront of financial miss-selling and personal injury litigation dealing with claims both in the UK and abroad.”
It is thought that Donns had been attempting to restructure its banking facilities at the time of the administration. According to the Manchester Evening News, the last accounts filed with Companies House were for the year to April 2010, and showed that it incurred a net loss that year, with its liabilities exceeding its total assets by £5.5 million.
Irwin Mitchell’s Andrew Tucker confirmed the company’s acquisition of the Donns' cases, and said it would be able to approach Donns' clients to seek permission to act for them.
