Maltacourt Global Logistics, a UK-based freight forwarding business, has been acquired by Dutch multinational logistics firm Janssen Group. The acquisition is Janssen’s second in the UK logistics space, following its takeover of Norman Global Logistics in March of this year.
Based in Runcorn, close to Liverpool Airport, Maltacourt also has additional sites located close to six other major UK airports: London Heathrow; Manchester; Glasgow; Edinburgh; Birmingham and Leeds Bradford.
The company was founded in 1981 and was then acquired by Matt Beech in 2011. It currently offers services through several different brands, including Mandarin, Maltacourt and Extraordinair, and has a team of 65 dedicated professionals.
In its accounts for 2022, the group reported turnover of £54.7 million, up from £26.3 million a year earlier (an increase of 108 per cent), while gross profit rose from £3.5 million to £7.9 million and pre-tax profits increased from £1.4 million to £3.6 million.
The company’s strong performance came despite considerable headwinds, including COVID-19, the war in Ukraine and the Suez Canal obstruction. In its reports for 2022, the firm’s directors wrote that the disruption had “created opportunity for agile businesses to be responsive and supportive amongst the market challenges” and that “Maltacourt were able to provide supply chain solutions to key clients to help navigate testing conditions”.
The deal further expands Janssen’s presence in the UK logistics market following its recent acquisition of Norman Global Logistics, which is headquartered near London Heathrow, with other sites in Manchester, Northampton, Felixstowe and St Helens.
Janssen said that the acquisition would bolster its UK capabilities and "reinforces its commitment to delivering exceptional logistics services to its clients". The group’s CEO Rob Linders said that the acquisition “aligns with Janssen's strategic growth plans and underscores our commitment to a strong positioning in the UK.”
Linders added: "Especially due to post-Brexit complexities, our seamless logistics operation covering both the EU and the UK provides numerous benefits for our clients."
