Northampton-based logistics company Crisis Logistics has completed the acquisition of palletised goods delivery firm Action Express. The target company is a member of the APC Overnight parcel delivery network, as well as the national Pallet-Track network of independent hauliers of palletised goods.
Crisis Logistics was founded in 1998 as a same-day delivery specialist and has expanded its service offering to include national and international road haulage, warehousing and fulfilment. Through its ongoing growth strategy, the company is seeking to become “the market leader and one-stop shop for all logistics services in Northamptonshire.”
According to chairman Charles Grant-Salmon, the acquisition will enable the company “to provide a full range of logistics services across pallets, parcels and general haulage, in addition to specialist services like temperature-controlled delivery and secure distribution.”
Managing director Edward Grant-Salmon added that, with customers seeking to expand and diversify their operations, the acquisition would allow Crisis to offer them more flexible solutions.
Edward Grant-Salmon added: “In recent years, we have invested heavily in building a Customer Relationship Management system to improve efficiency and speed up processes, which has ensured we are in a strong position to grow while also maintaining the quality of service that is so important to our customers.”
Post-acquisition, Crisis Logistics plans to retain Action Express’ depot at Brackmills Industrial Estate and make further investments in the site and its facilities as it looks to increase the volume of pallets and parcels that the depot handles. Crisis has already bought Action Express 10 new vehicles, including seven articulated lorries and three 18-tonne trucks.
The deal will also see Action Express founder Syed Ziaullah join Crisis Logistics’ board of directors, with Charles Grant-Salmon commenting that this would help to facilitate a smooth integration.
The deal comes amid a period of sustained M&A activity in the logistics sector, with owners using acquisitions to help them diversify their services, grow scale, expand geographically and improve their uptake of technology.
